It was first settled in the 1640's and was chartered in 1673 as Dunstable. It was a part of Massachusetts until a boundary settlement in 1741 placed it in New Hampshire.
During the American Revolution, Nashua was an important supply center for the Continental Army. The city was also the site of the first cotton mill in the United States, which was built in 1793.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Nashua became a major center for the shoe manufacturing industry. The city was also home to a large immigrant population, including many French-Canadians.
Today, Nashua is a thriving city with a strong economy. The high-tech industry is still a major presence, and the city is also home to several insurance companies, as well as a number of retail and service businesses.
